Equine Education Connection: Learn How to Perform a Thorough Equine Evaluation

Do You Know How to Perform a
Thorough Equine Evaluation?

If your answer to this question is "No", don't worry. I will go through the steps of how to perform a thorough equine evaluation on your horse.

There are multiple steps to a thorough evaluation. You may choose to do some or all of these steps depending upon your horse, your situation, the time you have available, etc. If you have a horse with many problems or you don't have a clue what the problem is or what could be causing it, you may want to go through all of the steps to really find out what is going on.

If your horse could possibly have an illness or injury, this would be a contraindication for equine therapy. You will need to seek the advice of a qualified veterinarian before applying any equine therapy.

So, what are the different steps?

  1. Question and Interview
  2. Gait Analysis
  3. Structural Faults
  4. Body Scanning
  5. Palpation

After reading these different steps, you will then know how to find areas of tension, tenderness, or stress in your horse's body. You can then move onto using any of the equine therapies that you feel will benefit your horse.
