Ttouch / Tteam and
Linda Tellington-Jones
I
really enjoy watching Linda Tellington-Jones' videos and reading her
books about Tteam and Ttouch. Her thoughts about
horses and their behavior are very similar to mine.
She, like myself, also
believes that horses
"misbehave" due to something bothering them either
in their body or their mind - or if you are lucky, both.
I would
not say that we do everything the same. Her methods are slightly
different than mine. So, I am by no means presenting this information
as a course in Tteam, Ttouch, or claiming to be teaching Linda
Tellington-Jones methods.
What I would like to do is give an
introduction to Linda Tellington-Jones and then provide you with some
information about her different books and videos.
Linda Tellington-Jones
Linda
has been a lifelong equestrian. She first developed TTEAM (Tellington
Ttouch Equine Awareness Method) in the 1970's. Then, in the 1980's she
developed Ttouch for companion animals.
Her techniques are
designed to help develop the trust and bond between you and your horse
and to help decrease equine behavior problems. She does this using
bodywork to relieve stress and tension in the horse's body. She then
uses her own variation to training methods to reduce horse behavior
problems. She has also used her methods to work with wildlife and
exotic zoo animals.
Linda Tellington-Jones is known
internationally for her work with horses and companion animals. Her
work involves improving horse behavior, horse training problems, and
healing.
She gives presentations and demonstrations worldwide
including, veterinary conferences, universities, equestrian
expositions, North American Handicapped Riding Association and the
Delta Society world conferences, therapeutic riding associations,
Olympic training centers, wildlife rehabilitation conferences, and zoos
throughout the world.
Tteam and Ttouch Books and Videos
Linda Tellington-Jones is the author of 15 books and 18 videos. Most of which I have watched or read.
I
really enjoy watching her gentle, humane approach to working with
horses (and dogs). Even though I use a slightly different approach, I
still come away with some new ideas or understanding.
I would
encourage you to learn more about Linda Tellington-Jones and TTEAM. I
have read reviews where people didn't like her use of animal terms to
name the different techniques that she uses. I would tend to agree.
But, like they say, don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. You
can still learn something about how horses learn and think. You can
still learn how bodywork affects your horse's performance and behavior.
The
bodywork that she presents is (in my opinion) more superficial than a
lot of the
equine therapy options that I have presented on this site.
So, if you have a true structural or chronic muscle problem, you may
need to use other techniques.
What I think you can come away
with from her work is to be able to see how a horse can change through
gentle, understanding methods.
Her methods are also something that the average horse owner can do with very little training.
Her
TTEAM training includes other training methods for helping horses deal
with stress and balance problems. She has videos about ground work and
also riding instruction. I found these to be very interesting and have
put some of the ideas into my own tool box.
*****I will be adding a list and review section of her books and videos very soon*****
Since
I have watched and read most of them, I can tell you what they are
about and my opinion of the material presented. That way you will be
able to see if any of them appeal to you before spending any money.
