Equine Learning Theory
How it Applies to Clicker Training
Using Positive Reinforcement
This is scientifically researched information. It is not something that I am just making up. I am just
presenting it to you. I hope you will take some time to read and learn the principles involved with equine
learning theory. I know it can be a little dry, but understanding it really will help you to have more positive
training sessions with your horse.
The following pages contain what you need to know about how your horse "operates". I guess you could
call it your "Horse Owner's Manual".
As I mentioned, it is very important to know this information since your horse was born instinctively
knowing it. If you take some time to understand how your horse learns, you will start to have more positive
training sessions with less frustration.

This lesson will help you to understand how
horses (and other animals) learn. Since all
learning is governed by these scientific
principles of equine learning theory,
understanding them will help you to have
better results during your training sessions.
This is for all training, not just equine clicker
training or other positive based horse training
These principles are based on horses, not a
training method. Not understanding these
principles can result in unfavorable results
when working with a horse. Just because
you do not know about them, or choose to
ignore them, does not mean that your horse
is not operating with in them.
