Positive Horse Training Methods aka. Clicker Training |
I have found Positive Horse Training Methods (also called equine clicker training) to be one of the best "tools" ever for communicating with my horses. I think a lot of people misunderstand clicker training so...... For those of you who may be thinking "Clicker training is just a bunch of people spoiling their horses" or "I don't want to have to carry around a clicker" etc, etc. (I know a lot of people think they don't like clicker training) - Please at least read the "Common criticisms and why they aren't true" page before leaving this website. You may realize that a lot of what you don't think you wouldn't like about clicker training isn't even true. Please just humor me and have a look. |
There are so many uses for positive horse training methods / clicker training that I can't even list them all. But I will list a few. |
Clicker training can be used to decrease the amount of time it takes to teach your horse a new behavior. Clicker training can be used to overcome behavior problems - such as fear and anxiety based problems. Clicker training can be used to change an association your horse has with something from negative to positive. Clicker training can be used to teach a horse to control his body and emotions. Or, if you really want to have some fun, clicker training can be used to teach your horse some really cool tricks. |
The list goes on and on. So, as I said before, the first thing I would like to do is discuss some of the common criticisms that people have about positive horse training methods / clicker training and horses. I will explain why these criticisms are not true at all and how you can actually modify clicker training to fit your training style. If you want to see equine clicker training in action, please take some time to watch this video of a clicker trained miniature horse. She has been trained to be a Guide Horse for the Blind. Now, I know that most of you are not going to train your horse to be a guide, but I think you will be impressed with how well you can train a horse using positive training methods. Keep in mind that anything you need to teach your horse can be taught using these methods. I hope you enjoy the video. |

Positive Horse Training/Clicker Training is a new section on this site. Please be patient if you come across an area that is incomplete. Be sure to check back often as I am currently working to get this section done. |
